With worsening conditions for Jews in Czechoslovakia, Bedrich was routinely attacked and even incarcerated. It was decided that he should leave the country. While attempting to get to Palestine he was intercepted by the British and interned in Mauritius. Upon enlisting in the Allied forces he was permitted to leave.
