Description"Akt Slubu" - Marriage Certificate issued by the civil authority of Lodz on 12 March 1926, between Jakob Sapir (21 years of age) and of Moses faith and Tauba Sztorch (22 years old) of Moses (Jewish) faith. This document was kept in the Civil Authority archives in the section where documents of non Christian religions are kept.
Jakob Sapir, his wife Tola and son Peter, travelled in the late 1930s from Poland to Vilno in Lithuania, then on to Moscow. They then travelled from Vladivostock to Kobe, Japan and eventually arrived in Shanghai in 1941. They lived in the French quarter in Shanghai, but were later moved into the Hongkew ghetto. Peter Sapir attended St. Francis Xavier's school, run by English priests, which was outside the ghetto boundary. Jakob Sapir earned a living in Shanghai running a Polish kitchen. The family left Shanghai in 1947, aboard the "Hwa Lien" ship, migrating to Sydney, Australia.

MARRIAGE ACT

Issued by the civil authority of the region of LODZ, Poland.
It states, at the outset, that this document called the ‘Marriage Act’ is kept in the Civil Authority archives in the section where documents of non Christian religions are kept.
It states “In the City of LODZ on the 12th of March 1926 at 12pm two witnesses came in: Falo MOSZKOWIC and Lajb Icenson, both buyers and residing in Lodz and notified that on the 12th of March 1926, entered into a religious marriage union at 11 o’clock before noon. Jakub Sapir, single, 21 years of age, born and living in Lodz, of Moses’s (Jewish) faith the son of MOWSZA Wolf and Anna nee Gozanskich married name Sapir and Tauba Sztorch 22 years old born and living in Lodz of Moses’s (Jewish), faith the daughter of Jozef and Rebeka nee Horonczykow married name Sztorch, were married in the synagogue officiated by a member of the rabbinate Jaszko Menachem.
