DescriptionYahrzeit (anniversary of death) book-calendar, Vienna, Austria, 1927. Trauer is German for ‘period of mourning’. The book commemorates the death of Hermine Stern and Samuel Stern, with their deaths 5 years apart. Yahrzeit is traditionally observed on the annual date of a relative’s death according to the Hebrew calendar. Other rituals performed as part of the commemoration include the lighting of a Yahrzeit candle, fasting and the recital of mourning prayers.
This Trauer Album was compiled in 1927 by Samuel Stern, husband of Hermine Stern.
