- German I, the undersigned, herewith certify that Semel Berthold from Vienna, born in Nied. Oest (South East?) on 2 (probably January, can’t think of any other month that has these letters, may be an old German version) 1901, has learnt the trade of Garment manufacture (Waeschewaren is more shirts and general garments than suits and formal dresses) according to the existing rules and regulations over the last 2 ½ years, that is from 1st February 1916 to 1st July 1918, and during this apprenticeship has attained the necessary knowledge and skillset, proving himself at all times polite and loyal and has therefore been acquitted (released) on this day.
