DescriptionWooden reel with black cotton thread used by Lucy Gershwin on her "Singer" sewing machine. The machine was purchased by her husband Mark Gershwin (survivor of Buchenwald and Dachau) for Lucy in 1950 in Australia, telling her, “You have to learn to sew to make clothes for the children; it looks like we won’t be wealthy.”
