DescriptionThis postcard is one of eight cards from Anna Kalfus collection of family war-time letters & postcards. It is a pre-printed Deutsches Reich's postcard with a printed stamp of value of 15 Pfennig without date showing the profile portrait of the second president of Germany Generalfeldmarshall Paul von Hindenburg (1847 - 1934).
The card is dated Bendzin, 24/12/1940 and sent from Anna's sister H(elene) Tintpulwer and addressed to Ida Tintpulwer in Russia. Anna was 21 and her sister Ida 27 when they were both taken to a labour camp in Russia in 1940. Written on both sides in Polish, the card conveys the atmosphere of white Christmas of the Bendzin city which is bustling with people and the market. The parents are concerned if the children are keeping warm. It is also a reminder that the it is father's birthday and the first candle will be lit.
