DescriptionThis is a Note issued by the Central Zionist Association advising of their three members, chaverim, being written in the Gold Book of Jewish National Fund to commemorate their contribution to the development of Israel. To mark the occasion "Kind financial contributions are welcome to be forwarded to the JNF in Prague 5, Josefovska Street 5."
The awarded men are:
Dr Hanus Rezka, Member of the District JNF in Prague, Head of 'Makabi' in Czechoslovak Republic (CSR), Head of the Circle of Jewish members of Resistance;
Mikulas Kanner, Member of the District JNF in Prague, Executive of 'Makabi' in Czechoslovak Republic (CSR);
Ervin Diamant, Chief of Makabi' in Czechoslovak Republic (CSR).
While there is no mention of Moric Kohn name, it is possible that Ervin Diamant was his relative, possibly brother in law, as there are several postcards and personal correspondence in the Eva Gertler Collection which are either address to or from Frieda Diamant, Moric's sister who lived in Slovakia (Pezinok) at the time of correspondence.
Although there is no date on this Note, it is likely that it was issued prior February 1948 or not long after, when the communists took over the government in the Czechoslovak Republic. It would have be unthinkable for the existence of the Central Zionist Association to survive long beyond 28 February 1948. This makes the note a significant historical document of the brief survival of the surviving Jewish life after the Holocaust in the Czech Republic as it is known today, 2015.
