Object numberM2015/010
DescriptionA 3-branch silver (partly plated?) candlestick used for Shabbat by Helen Bierzynski-Burnett, mother of the donor Leslie Burnett. Helen Bierzynski-Burnett (nee Rachela Birnbach), was born in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1925. She survived the Holocaust in Tarnov, Poland. Leslie remembers the candlestick displayed "nicely polished" in the centre of their Sydney home sideboard. The piece is one of the few surviving pre-war possessions. It is likely that it was saved by a neighbour and reclaimed by Helen after the war, and later brought to Australia.
