TitleShanghai Jewish Chronicle
DescriptionNewspaper in German from Shanghai, "Shanghai Jewish Chronicle", 7th May 1940. Collected by Edgar and Irene Boehm, Jewish refugees in Shanghai from 1939 until 1946 when they migrated to Australia.
An English title, a German publication, highly educated German.
This is now 3 years under Japanese occupation and by all appearances a thriving Jewish Community. In fact it is the 5th anniversary of the Shanghai Jewish Chronicle. A great deal of space devoted to the rich Japanese cultural heritage inherited by the rest of the world in terms of art, literature, philosophy since the 16th century .There appears to be commercial prosperity with ads for liquor, candy, libraries leather goods ballet schools, electrical goods, all this with a war still in progress. One author, originally an immigrant from Vienna, writes in great detail about the future of the Arts in the population of the world. This is a classic assessment a s valid to-day as when it was written 70 years ago.
