TitleShanghai Jewish Chronicle
DescriptionNewspaper in German from Shanghai, "Shanghai Jewish Chronicle", 1st May 1940. Newspaper contains the birth announcement of their daughter Dorit. Collected by Edgar and Irene Boehm, Jewish refugees in Shanghai from 1939 until 1946 when they migrated to Australia.
Although seemingly an English publication all the articles are written in a pure form of “High German” which says a lot about the cultural standing of the publishers. Whilst there is a war raging in Europe this particular page makes no mention whatsoever of the conflict nor any reference to any possible Japanese threat. There is a lengthy review of a Schalom Asch book, ongoing review of the Shanghai cultural scene such as concerts, theatre and ads for carpets, memorabilia and radios all in what appears to be a contented, settled atmosphere.
