The Viennese Theatre, operational from 1941 to the mid-1980s, provided a cultural link to the home country and Europe to migrants/refugees since most plays were performed in German. The donor’s parents, Edith and Frederick Sowey, were great supporters of the Theatre, which had been founded by Karl Bittman and Alfred Baring “as a symbol of a vibrant and optimistic cultural era” (words of the donor).
