- Yiddish Dear mother and sister
This is the second letter that I am writing to you and I cannot describe to you the splendour of the surroundings.
Dear mother and sister
I am in a magnificent hotel that is in magnificent condition. On the right side of the picture is our hotel. I am not afraid because there are more Jews here than any other nationality.
From Badgastein - a ski resort in Austria - Steyr (?) from Himmelschein (?)
17/4 (probably 1946)
* The handwriting is a little deceiving but the word you think might be “Beujausteu” is actually “Badgastein”
* The word “steyr”, that I think is pronounced “shtyer” is the same word in both Yiddish and German and means a “duty” or “tax” but I am not sure about that one.
Postcard photograph:
The printed words say “Badgastein at night”
The handwriting around the picture on the left side says: I ask you to tell the shoemaker that he should repair the boots.
At the bottom: and heartfelt greetings to Sorre and . . . . . (illegible last word – it’s a name).
On the right side: I greet you warmly dear mother, sister and all the friends.
