DescriptionDaily Telegraph newspaper, 20 pages, dated Sydney, Tuesday, 8 May 1945, carrying the historic announcement in gigantic letters - "Germany Quits." The surrender of Germany to the Allied forces as reported in Australia's daily newspaper was a significant milestone. The front page also announces that the Victory Day holiday in Australia will be on 9 May, but will not be declared until Churchill confirms surrender. Inside features an article on the story of the European war with images of the men who drew the blueprints of Germany's defeat (Roosevelt, Stalin, Churchill, Eisenhower, Tedder, Cunningham) and the men who led Allied armies to final victory (Patton, Bradley, Montgomery, Alexander, Koniev and Zhukov). On the same page 9 is a piece on 'Australia's part in the defeat of Germany.' Page 10/11 is a double page spread of the war story in pictures and page 12/13 features how cartoonists see the war.
