DescriptionThis is a black and white photograph of Lord Hampton (Chief Scout) speaking to the Cubs of New South Wales Scouting Troops at the Bradfield Jamboree. Lord Hampton appears to be asserting his authority by standing tall and holding a stick with both hands. The Cubs are seated around Lord Hampton in uniform and several Scout Troop Leaders are standing amongst the Cubs. An Australasian Scout Jamboree was held at Bradfield Park on an old race course previously known as Cook’s Flat between December 1938 and January 1939. The Jamboree attracted Scouts from all over the world. Following the Jamboree, the site became a training depot for the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II.
