Creator2nd Bondi Judean Scout Troop
DescriptionThis is a handwritten log book on lined paper about the 2nd Bondi Judean Scout Troop. The log book features Edgar Joe Kelson's name on the front (founder of the 2nd Bondi Judean Scout Troop), however he did not write any entries as he was serving with the Australian military at the time this log book was used. The log book is a very detailed account of the activities at various weekly Scout meetings, outings and camps throughout 1943 and 1944. Some examples of entries include discussion about the Inter-patrol Swimming Competition, an excursion to Narrabeen in June 1943, a Concert Party involving a visit to hospitals to entertain sick children with plays, songs, jokes, stories and musical items and a Camp Report from August 1943. Also featured is a copy of an article written by Peter Moddel for ‘Scouting in NSW’ describing concerns about the Nazi effort to eliminate the Scouting Movement in Germany. He discusses his faith in the ability of the Scout Movement to re-establish itself in future due to the undying Scouting spirit of the boys in Europe. The final entry of the Log Book documents a ‘momentous decision’ in 1944 for the 2nd Bondi Judean Troop to commence joint meetings with the 1st Waverley Troop due to the need for several 2nd Bondi Patrol Leaders to take a leave of absence from the Troop in order to focus on their studies for the Leaving Certificate Examination.
