DescriptionThis is a business card and holder belonging to Abe Weingott. The card lists his business as “A.Weingott & Son Manufacturer’s Representatives, Marketing and Industrial Engineers” as well as contact details.
After be discharged Abe went back working for his father until 1922. Like so many others at that time, Abe’s life was a struggled against the hardships of the Great Depression, and he was forced to move, as an itinerant worker, through the N.S.W. countryside in order to find work. Owen was again placed in the care of his devoted aunts. Being always so well presented, personable and with typical strength of character, Abe eventually managed to find hard-won employment as a travelling salesman in country & regional areas and then eventually as a factory manager in the city. It was the depression after all and any work opportunities were hard-won. He only ever found modest means to support himself and his young son.
After the war he had immediately returned to work for three years in his father’s business, S.Weingott & Sons, Wholesale Waterproof Clothing and Oilskin Manufacturers, as Manager, Clothing Dept., before leaving again in1922 when he was 28yo. Subsequently, he worked as a factory manager and manager of production and sales for various businesses, including a partnership with his youngest brother, Ray (Raphael) in a new and exciting venture, Kriesler Radios Pty. Ltd. founded by them in 1926. The two brothers apparently had a difference of opinion over some matter concerning the new business and Abe finished-up leaving with a good reference.
