DescriptionA travel pass Nr. 18287 (Durchlasschein) issued by the Terezin Ghetto Jewish self-administration to Moric Kohn on 22 March 1943. The pass provides Moric with a permission to move within the ghetto for an evening ‘service talk’ (Dienstbesprech) . It is signed by Dr Paul Israel Eppstein, Council of Elders, and valid after 8pm.
This small and seemingly petty docket documents the rigid nature of the Nazi’s administration. All aspects of life in the ghetto were strictly managed and regulated. Every movement required permission and needed to be recorded. The pass identifies Moric’s original Transport Nr. AAv 889 and his accommodation in the barrack No. L407. The Jewish self-administration worked under the Nazi control and was charged with implementation of many ghetto’s regulations and restrictions.
