TitleStudy for Dr Gene Sherman
Creator Judy Cassab (painter)
DescriptionPainting titled ‘Study for Dr Gene Sherman’, acrylic and oil on canvas, 1996 by Judy Cassab.
The painting depicts Dr Gene Sherman, Chairman and Executive Director of Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation, a Sherman family philanthropic enterprise dedicated to the public exhibition of significant contemporary art from Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Gene Sherman assumed this role following 21 years as Director and Proprietor of Sherman Galleries (1986-2007).
The painting captures the sitter even though she is painted without facial features. As a study, it is a good example of the process and skill of the artist. Both the sitter and the artist are notable achievers and trailblazers in the Jewish community.
