The late Harry Robert was born Herman Rosenzweig in Germany in 1920. His parents were from Lodz, Poland, and they had married in Poland in 1920 and left almost immediately for Germany The family, after a period in Palestine, came to Australia in 1926. The donor’s father Sam Rosenzweig had come out first to save money and bring his wife Rivka (Regina) out. Herman Rosenzweig became Harry Rosen, the Harry Robert. He changed his name in case he was captured by the Germans. He enlisted in the Australian Army in 1940 and then transferred to the RAAF in 1942. He was discharged in 1946.
