DescriptionPortrait of Marta Reiss by an unknown artist commissioned by her husband, Fred. It was painted in Theresienstadt in December 1943 by one of the artists, whose name Martha can't remember; signature is illegible. The painting remained in Theresienstadt although Marta and Fred were deported to Auschwitz. They returned to Theresienstadt after liberation and discovered that the painting survived. They brought it with them when they emigrated to Australia in 1948.
