DescriptionRed Cross Voluntary Aid Detachment pin belonging to Maadi Einfeld (nee Sussman).
Maadie Einfeld was eager to help during WWII which she attributes to patriotism she got from her father, Maurice Sussman, who served in WWI . Maadi worked for the Missing, Wounded and POW Department of the Red Cross writing sympathy letters but what she really wanted to do was nursing. She also volunteered on weekends with the Voluntary Aid Detachment and The Stage Door Canteen which entertained troops. Maadi met her husband, who was serving with the AIF, while he was in Sydney on leave in 1944 and they married a year later.
