DescriptionThe Book Schaare Zedek (meaning Gates to Righteousness) in Hebrew and German is an elementary introduction to the study of Torah and prayer intended for Children. The authors are M. Abraham and JB Levy and it was printed in Frankfurt am Main in 1931.
The book belonged to the donor, Eva Laurence (nee Köhn). It was one of her first books as a pupil in primary school. She was born in Berlin in 1924 and later the family moved to Pirna. In 1935 and the age of 11 she crossed the border into Czechoslovakia where she lived for 6 months awaiting money from her father in South Africa so that she and her mother could join him. They sailed to South Africa from Genoa in 1936.
