The background shows a full bookshelf and a clock. There is an inscription in Hebrew as well as at the top of the bookshelf. The inscription translates to In memory of Rabbi Eliahu ben Solomon Zalman gon to heaven year 5558 (which corresponds to 1797). The Vilna Goan embodied the glory and erudition of the rich cultural and religious life of Lithuanian Jews.
