DescriptionPage 16 from the Argus Pictorial Supplement, Saturday June 15, 1940. The Argus was a Melbourne newspaper. The illustration is titled “Light Cavalry of the Sea: Motor torpedo Boats.” It shows sketches of motor torpedo boats of the British Navy, as well as a large sectional view illustration of a motor torpedo boat. The pen and ink wash drawings are highlighted with red and yellow. Marcuse’s signature appears on the lower left of the centre illustration.
Ernst Marcuse (1900-1985) was a commercial artist and illustrator who came to Australia in 1939. He produced many war illustrations for The Argus Newspaper and joined the Australian Army where he produced many visual aid material for training and illustrating for Army publications.
