DescriptionPage 4 from the Argus Pictorial Supplement, Tuesday May 21, 1940. The Argus was a Melbourne newspaper. The illustration is titled “Robot Guns in Allied Planes and Maginot Line.” It shows a series of drawings explaining how British Gunner planes use remote control to move guns into position. Also there are sectional drawings of the Maginot Line machine gun in a concrete ‘pill box.’ The pen and ink wash drawings are highlighted with red and blue. The Argus published weekly diagrammatic war drawings. Marcuse’s signature appears on this page on the lower right corner.
Ernst Marcuse (1900-1985) was a commercial artist and illustrator who came to Australia in 1939. He produced many war illustrations for The Argus Newspaper and joined the Australian Army where he produced many visual aid materials for training and illustrating for Army publications.
