DescriptionHandwritten letter in English from Leo Botknecht, an 'enemy alien', internee No. 54622, interned in Cam 7 Hut 8, Eastern Command, Hay, NSW, to Siegmund Grunfeld (the donor’s grandfather) of Rose Bay North, dated 8 October 1948. The letter gives a brief timeline of events since his arrest on 25 June 1940 and describes conditions at the camp as good. He asks for news about his family as he is "terribly worried about them; what you would imagine." Leo informs Siegmund that all future correspondence should go through the Chief Postal Censor in Sydney. The censor will forward the letter to the camp.
"I came five weeks ago after a voyage of about two months to this new built Internment Camp. We have plenty food and the treatment by the Australian authorities is very good too..."
