TitleSpoon belonging to migrant Holocaust survivor
DescriptionSpoon, with a slight swirling pattern on the handle, belonged to a young Jewish German-speaking Holocaust survivor, whose name can no longer be recalled. She arrived in Australia as a worker in 1950 at approximately 18 years of age. Bettina and Ludwig Streimer took the teenager in to do work around the house. Though her name has been forgotten, she had the spoon with her and told Bettina that she had it with her in a concentration camp. She ate with it always and it seemed to bring her security and comfort. The young survivor of the camps, however, was ill and eventually became too ill to work. When a suitable home for her was found, she left but left the spoon behind. Bettina knew how much it meant to her and looked after it, finally donating it to the Sydney Jewish Museum in 2006.
