DescriptionFragment of a sandstone tombstone belonging to Abigail Moses. Abigail Moses was the second wife of Mordecai Moses, father of George Moss. She died in 1841. The tomb was relocated from Devonshire Street Cemetery (today's Central Station) to Rookwood in 1901. It appears in the second row in section A, the fourth to the left of the path, on the 1844 plan of Devonshire Street burials.
The two lines of Hebrew translates as "My pain increases every time I remember the woman Abigail ...". The part below the break "... wife of Mordechai son of Moses, who was the Sexton of the Sydney Synagogue. Died on 17 Tamuz 5601 at the age of 52."
