DescriptionDeutsches Reich Reisepass Nr 14529 for Helene Silberstern, issued in Vienna on 2 September 1938. The front page is stamped with a red "J", for Jew. The passport includes a black and white photo of Helene (born 06 November 1916) and numerous visas and transit stamps for her trip, by air, to Australia including stamps from China, Bengal, Karachi, Burma, Alexandria, etc. She departed Budapest on 18 May 1939 and arrived at the Darwin Aerodrome on 24 May 1939. The passport is in a leather case along with a departure card for Ernst Israel Silberstern and Helene Sara Silberstern (Ernst was Helene's husband at the time). The middle names of Israel and Sara were imposed on all Jews by the Germans.
