DescriptionCollection of 10 black and white photographs (a-j; on a single sheet) that belonged to Alf Davis, an Australian Jewish soldier who served as a wireless translator and intelligence officer in WWII. The pictures show scenes of military life on Biak island, where Alf was posted in 1944. Photos include views of the island, soldeirs at work and in the camp, and some of the Japanese heavy weaponry (tanks and guns) left there after the American forces captured the Island in the Battle of Biak in May 1944.
