DescriptionGerman Reisepass (passport) issued to Paula Sandig, born Prague 2 September 1891, living in Vienna. Issued 22 March 1939 and valid for 1 year, it is stamped with a red ‘J’. The passport contains travel visas for her trip to Australia via Colombo. Paula departed from Amsterdam 10 June 1939. On 2 July 1939 the boat left Colombo, arriving in Freemantle 11 July 1939. Her husband, Sigmund, and their two daughters, Lily, then age 21, and Herta, then age 17, immigrated with her. Their landing visas were organized by Paula's nephew, John Gardner, who had arrived in Sydney the previous year.
