DescriptionRelease Certificate (Temporary) certifying that, pending receipt of War Office Certificate, Pte. Alfred Hofbauer, of Pioneer Corps, British Army, is granted 56 days Release Leave with effect from 22 August 1946, and he is furthermore released from the British Army with effect from 17 October 1946. The document was also stamped by the Directorate of Rationing for Victoria on 27 August 1946. Alfred Hofbauer was born in 1913 in Vienna and found refuge in France c. 1938. He escaped to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
