DescriptionB/W photographgraph, uncaptioned, but virtually certain that it is Alfred Hofbauer in summer uniform (British), probably taken while serving with the British Army Pioneer Corps in North Africa c. 1943. Alfred Hofbauer was born in 1913 in Vienna and found refuge in France c. 1938. He escaped to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
