DescriptionBritish Soldier's Service and Pay Book (Army Book 64) issued to BNA (British North African [Forces])/13809483, Private A. Hofbauer, on 2 April 1943 when he enlisted in the British Army Pioneer Corps at Boufarik, Algeria, for the duration of the War (WW II). The book (20 pages) contains details of service, including vaccinations, medals awarded, training, leave, how to create a will, etc. Also includes his brother Frank's address in Australia. Last entries in 1946. Alfred Hofbauer was born in 1913 in Vienna and found refuge in France c. 1938. He escaped to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
