DescriptionService Record Booklet (in French) recording Alfred Hofbauer's service with the French Foreign Legion, 1939-1940 (front cover of booklet stored with M2008/028:024). It also records vaccinations and other medical history, religion, profession and his brother's contact details, as well as his transfer to Pioneer Corps, British Army on 29.03.1943 (page 4). The booklet is 18 pages plus 2 fold-out pages and a page of stamps, plus the front and back covers (which are detached). Alfred Hofbauer was born in 1913 in Vienna and found refuge in France c. 1938. He escaped to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
