DescriptionDemobilisation document (in French) of Alfred Hofbauer, No. 928, testifying to his demobilisation from the French Foreign Legion as of 12 November 1940 but signed 5 October 1940. Includes Alfred's thumb and fingerprint. Alfred Hofbauer was born in 1913 in Vienna and found refuge in France c. 1938. He escaped to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
