DescriptionCertificate of Good Conduct, in French, presented by Colonel Bouty of the 1st Regiment Foreign Legion of Infantry to Alfred Hofbauer, testifying to the latter's service with Honour and Loyalty. Dated 7 October 1940. Alfred Hofbauer was born in 1913 in Vienna and found refuge in France c. 1938. He escaped to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
