DescriptionMembership card No. 175925, in German, issued to Alfred Hofbauer for the Vaterlandische Front (Fatherland's Front) for the years 1933-1936. Also translated as "Patriotic Front", the Vaterlandische Front was a right-wing, austro-fascist party founded in 1933 to unite all "loyal Austrians" under one banner. It was banned in 1938 after the Anschluss. Alfred escaped from Austria to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
