DescriptionUnframed, black and white portrait of Rabbi Reverend Captain Ernest Wolff. He is in uniform with a badge of Jewish Army Chaplaincy on his cap. Born in Germany in 1912, Ernest came to Australia in 1937 with his wife, Else. He joined the Central Synagogue, Bondi Junction, that same year. He served with distinction for 65 years and was given an honorary title of rabbi by the Commonwealth Chief Rabbi. He also served as chaplain at St Vincent's Hospital and in the Australian Armed Forces. He died in December 2002. His daughter, Helen Klein, informs that her father, Reverend Wolff, was not actually a rabbi.
