DescriptionChild's toy pram made of metal with an embossed floral decoration on the sides and vinyl fold down hood. Inside is a mattress with a flannel sheet. Brought by the donor, Anne Heilig (nee Annelies Hoffman), to Australia in 1938 when she and her parents, Leo and Ida Hoffman, left Germany to escape the Nazis. They arrived with £200 and the pram, which had been a gift for Annelies’ third birthday. It was a custom-made copy of the same pram that Annelies had used as a baby.
The family arrived in Australia on 10 November 1938, aboard the ship ‘Eridan” which departed from Marseilles.
See M2007/083:002 photograph of Annelies as a child aged 3 1/2 with her parents Leo and Ida, just before emigrating to Australia.
