DescriptionMemorial painting for family victims of the Holocaust. It was painted by Otto Sekel (in Israel) to commemorate the deaths of his sister and her two children who were murdered in Auschwitz, Shavuot 1944. The work was sent to his brother-in-law – Stephen Rosenberg (in Australia) – the stepfather of the donor.
The painting depicts a building labelled Auschwitz, a chimney with flames and large candles on either side of three coffins. Each bears the name of the deceased - Goldale, Chaye Sarah and Yidele. Hebrew text includes El Melah Rachamim, the Prayer for the Dead and a text from the Torah.
