DescriptionSilver Megillah holder (without scroll of Esther) decorated with fine filigree work, floral swirls and Star of David designs on case. The finial, in the shape of a crown, has a small bell hanging inside, topped by a bird and three flowers. Alan Landis, antiques dealer, determined that it is late Nineteenth Century filigree silver that is typically Polish. It was given to Helen by her father Solomon Freifeld.
This Megillah holder has been in the donor's family for as long as the donor can remember. The mother kept it in a glass cabinet. Her parents, Amalia and Solomon Freifeld, gave it to her when she left Poland in 1959 at the age of 18. It is not known what happened to the scroll.
