DescriptionYad (Torah pointer), Netherlands, c1830, silver and mahogany wood, tapering to feature a (right) hand with extended index finger, coming out of a decorative shirt sleeve above an engraved collar attachment to the stem. A matching double collar to the central section of the shaft, and to the end another such collar and flat butt end another such collar and flat butt end with ring and short chain. The hand section marked with an unidentified mark ("L" enclosing a star). All three silver parts bearing a Dutch control mark used from 1914. The item is believed to be European dating from about 1830, very possibly Dutch. A number of Dutch maker's marks are recorded, which bear some similarity, but are not a clear match.
