Description1939-1945 Star - British war medal. Dark blue, red and light blue in three equal vertical stripes on the ribbon. Six pointed star, brass.
The donor is the widow of Hersch Fuks, uncle of Sali Fuks. Sali Fuks was born in Poland in 1920. He escaped from nazi Europe to England and joined the British Army, first pioneer corps the parachute regiment. Sadly, his plane was shot down over Germany and he was presumed killed in action on 24 march 1945. In the army he was given the name of John Fairbanks to prevent possible reprisal by Germans in the event of capture.
