TitleRighteous Among the Nations
DescriptionRighteous Among the Nations medal awarded to Olga Nowak - Nanyniec for risking her life and rescuing Jews.
Olga comes from the Polish town of Boryslaw (Eastern Poland - Galicia) and when the war broke out she chose to help Jews whose lives were endangered. Usually she was approached and asked if she would help. Being just a young woman herself and of Ukrainian origin she and her family were well known in the town. She was able to use her connections regarding accommodation, work and food supply. The first people she began to hide in her own flat were Cecilia Nadler and her son Leszek Nadler. She placed Alka Nadler with her sister in the country. There were times when she hid her neighbours and their entire families during an "Akcja", She hid a young male when he had to escape from the forest hiding place and kept him at her place for over 3 months. She was never paid for any of her deeds. After the war she and Leszek married. Leszek had changed his name to Nowak.
