DescriptionPolish / German Red Cross message from Mr. Wulf Dankin in the Warsaw Ghetto to his son Markus Dankin, residing in North Bondi, Sydney, Australia, 11 February 1942. Restricted to 25 words, his father writes: "Dearest Markus! It is now almost three years we did not have any news from you and that worries us a lot. We are healthy. We are living at Lurie. We kiss you, Your parents."
On the reverse is a stamp indicating ‘Reply cannot be sent on this form but may be sent through the Australian Red Cross Society’.
Markus Dankin (anglicised to Mark in Australia), was born in Poland in 1919. He left Poland at the age of 18, travelled on the Oronsay, arriving in Sydney on 24 May 1938. His parents were expected to follow shortly after but they were trapped in the Warsaw Ghetto. They were deported to Treblinka and murdered upon arrival.
This Red Cross message was most likely the last message that Markus received from his parents.
