Subject: Erich Meisel, born 22/01/1912, at Danzig-Langfuhr; Commander in charge of work camp Schippenbeil/Ostpreussen.
In reference: Your request of 01/09/1976.
Esteemed Mrs. Nagler,
In reference to your letter of 01/09/1976 I can advise as follows:
The late SS-Officer-in-Charge, Erich Meisel, was sentenced on 19/10/1950, legally enforceable, to imprisonment of 2 years and 6 months before the Higher Court, Aurich, on account of miss-treatment of prisoners in the Concentration Camp Wewelsburg. The Judiciary Aurich furthermore, launched a further inquiry on suspicion of murder of prisoners in the Camp Schippenbeil. I assume that your statement about killings in the Schippenbeil Camp and during the evacuation march would have been taken into account. Erich Meisel passed away on 18/07/1971 in Stapelmoor/Leer.
There were no proceedings against Meisel at the Hamburg Judiciary. Nor was he here held in detention.
Faithfully Yours (Klemm). Barrister
