DescriptionWindup toy car made from tin, with red and burgundy paint. One wheel still has rubber tire. Underside shows brand name, model number and place of production, written in gold paint. “Schuco Made in Germany Patent 1010”. Schuco was a famous German toy company that specialised in tin and windup toys. This model number “1010” is one of the earliest models, introduced in 1939. It was known as the “Wendeauto”, “Turning Car” or “Mystery Car”. It belonged to Victor Schwartz who lived in Oradea, Romania. He arrived home from school one afternoon and was told he was to be "taken on a journey". He asked the neighbours to look after some of his things, hoping to come back to collect them. However, he never returned. Victor, aged 9, together with other members of his family, was murdered in Auschwitz on 31 May 1944.
