DescriptionStatutory declaration (copy) made by Leopold Pavlovic in Sydney, 1956, before a Justice of the Peace. It concerns Pavlovic's acquaintance with Leopold Podhoretz and his family. Pavlovic met Podhoretz in Lvov (Lemberg), Poland, in 1939, and frequently visited him at his home until Pohoretz was arrested by German authorities and interned in the Janowski concentration camp in June, 1942. At this time, Pavlovic was living under an assumed name and under false documents. He was able to hide Podhoretz's daughter Janina in his home for 5 months and assist his wife and youngest daughter to go into hiding in Warsaw. He helped Janina join her family in Warsaw sometime after learning that Podhoretz had been shot dead in the camp.
