DescriptionLetter written in German by Jan Jasinski, No. 72739, Block 17, Buchenwald concentration camp. It is written in blue crayon and pencil on Buchenwald letterhead paper issued to inmates for the purposes of correspondence. The reverse side, originally folded in half, would have appeared like a normal envelop with the receivers address and the sender details on either side. The address has been scribbled over. Jan Jasinski was the alias of Jakub Jakubowicz, who was born in Zawiercie, Poland, lived in Krakow and later around Bielsko until the war. His letters (see also M1991/022:001) were censored and received by a Holocaust survivor who now lives in Sydney. In this letter he writes, "I am letting you know courteously that I am in the work camp since August, am healthy and am working. From Mrs. Anya I have no news. Maybe she has written to you? Write me kindly her exact address. I will be grateful to you forever if you send me some groceries".
